What Does ESOMAR Congress Have in Common with The Toronto International Film Festival?

First, both events attract thousands of people to Canada’s largest city. While ESOMAR attracts well over 1 000 of the most innovative qualitative and quantitative marketing researchers from around the world, TIFF, the Toronto International Film Festival, attracts nearly 500 000 film buffs and paparazzi to Toronto.

Second, attendees of both events love sharing pictures of famous people they got to see in person. But if you had to choose only one, would you be Team ESOMAR and keen to share photos of Joaquim Bretcha, Kristin Luck, Lucy Davison, and Finn Raben? Or, would you be Team TIFF, aiming to share photos of Jennifer Lopez, Matt Damon, Scarlett Johansson, and Joaquin Phoenix!

Third, given that TIFF will be in Toronto from September 10th to the 20th and ESOMAR will be in town from September 13th to 16th, ESOMAR conference attendees will be fighting with the likes of Meryl Streep, Tom Hanks, Nicole Kidman, and Daniel Craig, for hotel rooms. You really need to book your hotel rooms as soon as you know you will be coming!

Where Do Celebrities Stay in Toronto?

As lovely as our hotel is, I suspect that we won’t be sharing celebrity sightings from the Sheraton. However, if your pockets are unlimited and you’re determined to increase your odds of spotting a famous person, check yourself into Cactus Club, Soho House, The Ritz-Carlton, Montecito, or The Hazelton Hotel. Many of the hotels popular with celebrities are within the large red section you see on this map, very easily walkable and stalkable from the Sheraton.

Where Do Celebrities Party in Toronto?

If the ESOMAR parties and shenanigans don’t go nearly late enough for you, make your way over to Queen West, King West, and Adelaide West. There are lots of clubs where you might spot someone famous. These are located within the smaller red zones on the map and they too all very walkable. Try:

  • Cube, 314 Queen St W.
  • Bloke, 401 King St W.
  • Door Three, 667 King St W.
  • Drake One Fifty, 150 York Street
  • Montecito Restaurant, 299 Adelaide Street W.
  • RBC House, 11 Duncan Street

Can I See Some TIFF Films?

You absolutely can! It’s an open festival that anyone can attend. You can easily come to ESOMAR a few days early or stay a few days later. However, it is extremely popular and tickets can be tough to get. You’ll need to plan ahead so you can be ready to book your highly prized TIFF tickets the moment the ticket booth opens

Book Your Room at the Sheraton Now!

We can’t say this strongly enough. Book your room now. As stated on the Congress website, ESOMAR has reserved rooms at the Sheraton which you can reserve by calling 1-888-627-7175 with the group name ESOMAR Annual Conference 2020. Alternatively, you can use this link.

If you have any questions about how to conduct individual in-depth interviews and focus groups (i.e., catch a glimpse of and chat with celebrities during TIFF), please get in touch with us! Maybe we can celebrity watch as a team!
