Sustainability is finally a hot topic for most global companies that want to show consumers they deserve a spot in their consideration set. With a focus on sustainability, companies give back to the people, and the environment for that matter, who’ve helped them become successful. Trailblazing companies have already begun to make large, long-term changes and commitments.

Unilever will collect and process more plastic packaging than they sell

Unilever has been making some impressive moves lately. They announced their Sustainable Living Plan to improve the health and livelihoods of people, and to reduce their environmental impact by half. In terms of their environmental impact, they have promised to half the greenhouse gas impact of their products by 2030 and reduce their CO2 emissions to 2008 levels by 2020. They’ve also promised to reduce their use of new plastic by half, and collect and process more plastic packaging than they sell. They’re already on track to ensure all of their plastic packaging is reusable, recyclable, or compostable, and to use at least 25% recycled plastic in its packaging by 2025.

Chocolate fans can feel better about buying Nutella, Kinder chocolate, and Tic Tacs as Ferrero Group aims to make all of their packaging reusable, recyclable, or compostable by 2025. They intend to stop using unnecessary plastic and innovate to reuse plastics and keep it out of the environment. They also pledged to end deforestation within its supply chain – they are certified as using 100% Sustainable Palm Oil. They already source only cage-free eggs and are on target to use only certified sustainable cocoa and responsibly sourced sugar by 2020.

Aldo Shoes becomes first certified climate neutral footwear company

Aldo Shoes walking the talk with their commitment to being climate neutral. They launched a sustainable shoe collection call RRPL which is made from recycled plastic bottles and lake algae. They also eliminated shopping bags by adding a handle to their shoe boxes. Even better, they have become the first certified climate neutral footwear company.

Carlsberg aims for zero carbon emissions by 2030

Carlsberg’s has committed to reach zero carbon emissions and to reduce its carbon footprint by 30% by 2030. In the works for four years, one of their innovations on this path includes the creation of a prototype bottle made out of sustainably sourced wood fibre. They’ve also promised to reach zero carbon footprint and zero water waste by 2030. This includes 100% electricity from renewable sources, and 100% low climate impact cooling.

DASANI aims to make bottles and cans with 50% recycled material by 2030

DASANI plans to make its bottles and cans with an average of 50% recycled material by 2030. The bottles will continue to be fully recyclable, but they will be with up to 50% renewable and recycled material. Dasani also intends to reduce the use of virgin plastic, introduce new aluminum cans and bottles.


Consumers deserve a world where everyone can experience happy and healthy lives with clean air, water, and food and with less pollution and waste. The biggest way they can do this is by supporting companies that allow them to make smarter choices, choices that make a positive impact on the environment. Where sustainable packages exist, consumers can make good choices for the environment.
